This workshop is part of a workshop series called “HerArt” focusing on female artists and their work. The current workshop is dedicated to Alma Thomas, an African-American artist. You will learn about her life, career, and techniques.

In the first part of the workshop, you will learn about colour theory and have some activities to bring light and shadows through colours.

In the second part of the workshop, you will create your own art piece.

Duration: 3 hrs.


Workshop Breakdown:

  • Short introduction of the artist and of the group (15-20min)
  • Short history class about Alma Thomas and her career. We will also talk about the main characteristics of African American art and its impactful history. Round of questions (30 min)
  • Group Activity: Colour theory and Contrasts (30 min)

Break (20 min)

  • Individual Art piece (70 min)
    You will select your own materials (you can share paint and brushes) and create your individual art piece.
  • Wrapping up and farewell (15 min)

No experience required. Materials and snacks included.
