Amsterdam Fringe Festival
September 8, 2026

DATES: 8 - 11 SEPTEMBER
LANGUAGE: ENG

Each year in September, Amsterdam Fringe Festival showcases a mixture of theatre, performance and dance, created by new, upcoming and untamed talents.

A multidisciplinary program is presented, containing over 55 artists of diverse backgrounds, origins and futures. The festival is a free zone for experiment and offers a stage to new makers and their stories. Amsterdam Fringe Festival is an ode to theatrical madness, independent minds and a plea to artistic freedom. A warm, intimate embrace of experimentation at its core: the outcome might be extremely surprising.

The entire city is their playground: from a garden to a bar and into a theatre, north to south; for 11 days you can find Fringe Festival at 23 locations, spread across Amsterdam, including Treehouse NDSM.

CONTAINERTIRADES

I believe my loneliness is my own fault. I should be more outgoing. I should be grateful I have a home at all even if it is not the kind I want.

While young people across Europe suffer from problems that would benefit from socials contacts and stability, more and more separate, temporary housing is being build. Blocks stacked on top of each other that make it impossible to connect: no roommates, no space to invite people over. But instead of addressing this policy, we place the problem on ourselves. That has to change.

In CONTAINERTIRADES you follow two residents of container homes: One has locked themselves inside; the other has locked themselves outside. They both unload a tirade: a long, angry speech expressing strong disapproval. It raises the question: how (not) to emotionally navigate the housing crisis?

MANDRAGORA

What happens when the landscape screams back? Is her haunting voice loud enough to make the forest tremble? Mandragora is a contemporary folk tale: a joyful act of transformation and the queer resistance of unstable bodies.

The ancient legacy of the mandrake root – a unique plant-human hybrid – spans thousands of years of history. From Mesopotamia to the Middle Ages, her magical and medicinal properties were harnessed and traded across Europe and beyond. When the church and state systematically erased healers and their communities during the medieval witch hunt, they also severed the rootsongs of care and knowledge to the land, and weeded botanical ecologies associated with magic.

The mandragora slowly disappeared from recorded history, but never left the soil. On stage, uprooted and uplifted, her catchy songs weave a tale as old as the earth herself: of empires and spells, of love and resistance.

NOW WHAT?

An intimate storytelling performance inspired by Ingmar Bergman’s "Scenes from a Marriage"

"Now What?" invites you to pull up a chair to what begins as an ordinary evening of wine, laughter, and small talk. Friends gather around a dinner table, and as the evening unfolds, the casual conversation slowly digs deeper into real life. Through honest stories of marital hardships, affairs, miscarriages, unwanted pregnancies, loneliness, friendship, and the quiet fear of growing apart, a beautiful truth emerges: over the years, this chosen family has become each other’s ultimate anchor.

Blending storytelling, theatre, music, humor, and deeply personal confession, Now What? explores what connection looks like in a world where the old rules no longer seem to fit.

Together, they dare to ask: in today’s rapidly changing world, what does intimacy actually mean? Can friendship become as meaningful as romantic love? Are we brave enough to live honestly without the traditional rules? And if the old blueprints no longer fit, what new ones are we willing to build?
