Prelude: Freed from Desire
May 13, 2026

DATE: 13 MAY - 17 MAY TIME: 13H - 18H OPENING: MAY 13TH 18H - 22H

MAY 15: ARTIST TALK 16H, EVENING PROGRAM 19H

MAY 16: EVENING PROGRAM 20H30

A bathroom floor, candy wrappers hanging from the ceiling, and headphones, the work Freed from Desire by artist Vico Persson is a take on Untitled (Go-Go Dancing Platform) and a tribute to Felix Gonzalez-Torres, which, as the title suggests, features a go-go dancer performing on a platform.

Persson replaced this cheerful, light-surrounded platform with a sterile bathroom floor, a place where many people look at themselves in the mirror every day. This can be confronting, but also offers space for quiet self-reflection and growth. As in Gonzalez-Torres’s work, the artwork is activated by a dancing performer wearing headphones. With his eyes closed, he allows himself to be carried away by the music.

In Persson’s work, however, the sound does not come solely from the headphones. During the opening, the performer, Pedro Afonso Machado, will appear at various moments together with saxophonist Michael Maria Ott, bassist Lorenzo Servali, and pianist Sep Keyhani. The musicians follow the movements of the performer, who seems to retreat into his own world. In this way, Persson offers us a glimpse into a vulnerable and everyday moment. After the exhibition, on view until 19 May, the work will remain on view as part of the exhibition Two Suns at Once until 14 June.
