Dates: 13 March - 6 April 2025 Times: Thursday to Sunday 13h to 18h
Treehouse NDSM is excited to announce its upcoming exhibition, Masks & Mirrors: Carnaval Rituals, set to run from 13 March to 6 April, 2025. The group show will feature works from 11 artists, as well as special performances and workshops throughout the exhibition period.
Carnaval is a time of contradictions: shifting identities to express hidden parts of our fluid selves; blurring the boundaries between reality and fantasy; rejecting established societal routines or expectations. The artists participating in Masks & Mirrors engage both with celebrations and tensions surrounding carnavals in different cultures and traditions.
The show also extends itself beyond the exhibition space to present an immersive performance. Daria Fedorchenko and Hannah Rojer’s performance The Jester of the Crown: An Aquarian Exploration blends music, movement, and ritual to question authority, identity, and transformation—echoing the carnaval’s subversive energy and its potential for renewal. The exhibition’s programme also includes workshops that you can find below.
Through an eclectic mix of mediums and perspectives, Masks & Mirrors: Carnaval Rituals examines the magic, contradictions, and liberating power of carnaval. By exploring themes of masking and unmasking, fantasy and reality, celebration and resistance, the exhibition invites viewers to step beyond the everyday and embrace the transformative potential of ritual, identity and revelry.
