ABOUT

From April 29 to May 5, 2026, a unique exhibition of work by artists with ME and children with ME will be held at the Treehouse on the NDSM site in Amsterdam under the title 'Ongebroken'.

The many tens of thousands of ME ( Myalgic Encephalomyelitis ) patients in our country live lives invisible to the outside world. Due to their severe illness, these patients are often housebound, making visiting or receiving visitors virtually impossible. Furthermore, ME is often not recognized by doctors and is not even acknowledged by the healthcare system or the outside world.

The exhibition consists of impressive paintings by Mascha Delena , striking drawings by Ilse Sjouke , photographs and films by former professional ballet dancer Anil van der Zee , poignant texts by Martine Brandt , and beautiful, moving artworks by children with ME.

Sunday, May 3 at 15:00 hours two experts will discuss ME. The professor of medical ethics of Post-AcuteInfectious Diseases at the Radboud Univeristy of Nijmegen, Vivienne Matthies-Boon and the medical doctor Ernst Jurgens will reflect on the following topic: “Myalgic Encephalomyelitis. How to take the patientperspective seriously, and why for such a long time we have been unable to untangle this disease.”
