Solo Exhibition: "Shared Garden"
May 31, 2024

Date: May 31st - June 9th       Time: 19h            Free Entrance

The exhibition “Спільний сад” (“Shared garden”) is a result of the participative project “Rootless” about the temporary status of Ukrainian displaced people and difficulties with assimilation.

The art project "Rootless" was created at the end of 2023, as part of the project "Together" of the charity organisation "Road of Hope", which works with refugees and displaced persons in the Netherlands. The project's task was to help Ukrainians assimilate to their new place of residence and improve their mental state.

For the curator and artist, Alina Bielun, who is a part of Yi.collective, this task seemed very premature, as she herself is a temporarily displaced person in the Netherlands. She took this project as a way and a reason to explore the feeling that arises at the call for assimilation for a person with the status of a temporary displacement. The first image that arose is a plant that has roots, but it is not in the ground - it was taken out of its usual environment and has not yet been placed anywhere and, in fact, is not going to be placed anywhere soon.

The artist called this state "Rootless", calling on Ukrainian immigrants in the Netherlands to translate how they feel about this word. Later, the idea grew into a participatory project, for which 10 Ukrainian women were gathered to join the work, 4 joint meetings and personal consultations were held.
